  • please (!)
He learned "please" really fast, like we showed him once and he signed it and will sign it every time you ask him.  The other day, he signed "more cracker please!"  It is amazing that he can "say" this as up until a week or so ago, he was only verbally saying "ma" correctly.  He used other sounds a lot but used "ma" for me and Daddy.  Then last week he finally started using "dada" (the verbal word) for Daddy!  He will sometimes say "ma" to Daddy but last night when Daddy wasn't home, he walked up to me and said "dede" and then signed "dada!"  He then proceeded to walk around the house, knocking on the doors and walls, yelling "dede," trying to find him.  It was so awesome that his speech is slowly coming along!  He also seems to be saying "duh" for duck and "nigh-nigh" for night-night.  So exciting!
We're now working on:
  • juice (for smoothie)
  • light
  • mama
  • pig (has signed it a few times)
  • flower
  • chicken
  • monkey (he says "oo-oo-ah-ah")
  • book
  • jungle animals
I'm excited to see how his speech will come along in the next few months and how his signing will continue as well.  We are planning on continuing to teach him ASL through childhood so I hope he continues to learn the signs as well as he has been.

Slow Cooked Chicken Tacos

As I mentioned in my previous BBQ chicken post, I made slow cooked chicken tacos!  I've been eating tacos with the chicken just cut into pieces and sometimes it just seemed like the pieces were too big but I was too lazy to chop them any smaller.  After I made the BBQ chicken, it crossed my mind to make shredded chicken for tacos, like carnitas.  It turned out well but I will try a few things differently next time.  This is what I used this time:
  • 2 chicken breasts
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 packet + 1 tbsp of McCormick Taco Seasoning

and that's it!  These "crock pot" recipes are so easy!  I cooked it on the stove on low for 8 hours and it was perfect, shredded very easy.  When I tasted it though after shredding, it was a bit bland as the water and liquid from the chicken diluted the seasoning so I added another tablespoon of seasoning and mixed it well so all the chicken would be seasoned.  That's one thing about shredding after the 8 hours; the outside has been seasoned but not all the meat in the inside, so I left it simmer for a bit longer.  Next time I'll try adding less liquid as I thought the chicken should be covered in liquid but after thinking about it, I guess it don't need to be.  I will continue to add just the one packet of seasoning unless it needs more upon tasting.  It was really juicy and delicious and the texture was great.  I ate it as tacos last night and brought some to work for lunch but I'm thinking tomorrow I'll eat it on nachos!  I really how versatile the shredded chicken is.  I've made it BBQ and with taco seasoning so far and both of those recipes can be used in so many dishes.  I'm having a lot of fun with these recipes and have so many ideas for the near future (thank you Pinterest.)

If you want to see what I'm planning next, here is my dinner recipe board and also my general Pinterest page.  It has a lot of DIY natural body product pins, as well as toddler crafts and much more!

Robbie is 18 Months Old!

It's going to sound cliché but it seems like we just had Robbie's 1st birthday party.  How are we already halfway to the next one?!  Here are some (okay, a lot of) facts about Robbie at 18 months old:
  • He has 16 teeth!  Just have the last molars left.
  • He knows over 25 words in sign language.
  • He only says "mama" and "dada" verbally but "talks" a lot.  He also hums and will "sing" if we sing words or a tune.  He also "woofs" and "moos".
  • He can hop on two feet many times in a row.  He has done a somersault a few times!
  • He is a daredevil! He stands on the seat of his "Scoot- About" with no hands, stands on his Jumperoo, he's starting to step off things if he expects you to catch him.
  • He loves fruits and vegetables but doesn't eat much food at a time.  We just started giving him smoothies and he really likes them.
  • He still uses the Playtex straw cups. He only drinks water and smoothies.
  • He still nurses through the night and many times a day.
  • As of last night, no more pacifiers!
  • He is very independent.
  • He loves animals (his favorite right now is a cow.)
  • He also has found a new love for cars.
  • He was "Robin" from Batman for Halloween (see picture above.)
  • He loves watching "Nightmare Before Christmas" and recognizes the tune if we hum it.
  • His favorite TV shows are Kipper, Thomas & Friends, and Signing Time (also knows the songs.
  • We still wear him in the Ergo a few times a week.
  • He has been cloth diapered since birth!  Our favorites are still Fuzzibunz and Tots Bots Bamboozles with Bumby wool.
  • He still sleeps with us and we all still love it!
  • He scoots around on his Radio Flyer "Scoot-About".
  • He wears 18 month size clothes but still fits 12 month size shirts.
  • He's a hit everywhere he goes, he's such a flirt!
  • His bedtime is around 8- 9 pm and wakes up around 8.
  • He's a very happy child and is also very mischievous (in the playful sense)!  We love his personality.  He can be sensitive especially when teething.  He is getting better at understanding why he can't always do what he wants.
  • He measured 26.8 pounds and 33.5 inches tall at his 18 month pediatrician visit.
  • He doesn't like getting his hands dirty.
  • He makes the cutest scrunched-up face when he's being mischievous that I hope he makes forever!
  • He loves going outside and cries when we make him go inside.
  • Sometimes he'll wake quietly from a nap and climb onto the computer desk.
  • He seems very baby-ish when he wakes in the night.  He's such a toddler during the day and then seems so young in the night.
  • He gives "high fives".
I love him so much. When I look at pictures of him as a baby, it makes me want another one but how can I love someone else as much as him?! I'm so interested to see what happens in the next 6 months.
